South Tacoma
The South Tacoma Business District is a historic shopping area that’s been serving Tacoma’s needs for generations. You can find almost any type of merchandise or service along South Tacoma Way from 37th to 68th street. From printing to home security, to family restaurants – South Tacoma has it all. This district is regionally famous for its auto row and specialty automotive shops. If you’re looking to pay homage to the car do so with the annual Car Show every August!
Located along South Tacoma Way — one of the major routes in and out of Tacoma — the South Tacoma Business District has long been meeting the needs of people on the go. But don’t worry, come and stay a while because there is something for everyone in this uniquely developed area. Originally formed around the Northern Pacific Railroad, South Tacoma is home to a new commuter rail station. Although this district will continue on as a main transportation hub of the city, you can still find one of Tacoma’s longest standing flower shops, diverse restaurants, and shopping for anything from special antiques to paint colors — you name it and South Tacoma will provide.
While wheeled transportation may be king, South Tacoma businesses take care of their pedestrian customers as well. With hundreds of colorful flower baskets, specially installed pedestrian crossing lights, and one of the best collections of public art in the city, everyone will enjoy a stroll through the South Tacoma Business District while they look for that special item.
