TACOMA CONCERT BAND CELEBRATES ROBERT MUSSER’S RETIREMENT

On Saturday evening, April 28th, the Tacoma Concert Band will present its final concert of the 2017-18 Season, a Celebration honoring the retirement of Robert Musser, its first and only conductor and music director. Bob will be retiring after leading the band he founded for 38 outstanding years, and this concert will be both a tribute to Bob and a celebration of his outstanding service to the band, its musicians, and the entire Puget Sound community, to which he has given the gift of outstanding symphonic band music and an international reputation for cultural excellence.

This special concert will feature two of the TCB’s finest musicians, Lawrence Bradley on clarinet and Morris Northcutt on cornet. The music will be, as usual, from a variety of composers and genres, including works by Percy Grainger, Carl Maria von Weber, John Philip Sousa, and Andrew Lloyd Weber, plus music composed especially for the band and maestro Musser: “Pacific Crest Overture” by Joseph Turrin, commissioned by the TCB for this concert and in honor of Bob Musser; and “Musser Overture,” by local composer Robert Hutchinson. It will be an occasion to enjoy the music while honoring Bob and reminiscing about the TCB’s past triumphs. The TCB will carry on, but Bob’s legacy of leadership will always be with us.

Come and help us celebrate! It’s your last chance to hear the Northwest’s finest concert band under Bob Musser’s direction, and for all of us to wish Bob a wonderful and productive retirement.

Tickets: From $18, discounts for Student, Seniors, and Military Personnel, Broadway Center Box Office, 901 Broadway, 253-591-5894, 1-800-291-7593.
