Harvest Pierce County and Metro Parks Tacoma, and Charlotte’s Blueberry Park Action Group are hosting our second annual Blueberries & Blues celebration! There will be games and a lawn concert with live music – and Celebrity Cake Studio‘s Cake Mobile Food Truck will have blueberry vanilla cupcakes free for the first 150 visitors! After that, they will have other flavors and treats for sale.

Extra points if you wear blue to show your love for Charlotte’s Blueberry Park, and all things blue!

Amazing musician and Tacoma local Stephanie Anne Johnson will be playing two sets, one around 4pm, and one around 6pm in the Blueberry Park lawn – so bring your blankets and lawn chairs to hear some great local talent!

Check out what the Charlotte’s Blueberry Park Action Group has been up to over the past year, including designing a community garden: http://www.piercecountycd.org/blog.aspx?iid=94

About Charlott’es Blueberry Park (from the Metro Parks Tacoma website):
A commercial blueberry and hazelnut farm in 1929, volunteers now help maintain several thousand blueberry bushes that can be picked July through September each year.
This neighborhood park covers 20 acres and is owned by Metro Parks Tacoma. More than 10 of the park’s acres are wetlands and cannot be disturbed.

About the Charlotte’s Blueberry Park Action Group:
This group is for those who are interested in volunteering to make Charlotte’s Blueberry Park and the forested land around it a safe, well-loved, and well-used place for the community to gather. Together, we discuss ideas, solutions, and ways we can come together to help our neighborhood thrive.
We meet the first Tuesday of the month at Grace Missionary Baptist Church – all are invited!

BLUEBERRY PICKING
Since the Blueberry Park Project started in 1999, more than 3,372 bushes have been trimmed to ground level and are now producing fruit. Five varieties of blueberries grow in the park. Picking season runs from July through September each year (dependent on weather). Metro Parks does not use any pesticides or fertilizers on the blueberry plants, they are grown naturally. There is no fee to pick the blueberries which are first-come-first-serve during picking season.
