Today marks the last of bike month, but as Tacoma knows, the two-wheeling spirit never dies in this Northwest city. So we’re keeping it rolling into summer and beyond with a little insight into the local cycling scene with arrows pointing you in the right directions. Ride on!
Trails to put on your map
The 5-mile Drive at Point Defiance Park has some of the best road biking conditions in the state, through tall shady trees and with optional routes down to the water. The main outer loop is closed to vehicles and great for family and group rides Saturdays and Sundays until 1 pm and weekdays until 10 am (this includes holidays occurring on a weekday).
The Scott Pierson Trail connects to the Cushman Trail across the scenic Narrows Bridge and even offers a historical tour through War Memorial Park in Tacoma’s Narrows District. Pictured above.
Swamp Creek is carved with paved trails for all experience levels. The designated Tacoma park setting is a true gem in East Tacoma.
