 \n\nJoin us to learn more about capital projects at Point Defiance Zoo &am
 p\; Aquarium. We'll meet at the Education Center.\n\nReplacement of the Fa
 iling North Pacific Aquarium\nThe Zoo’s 52-year-old North Pacific Aquari
 um is failing\, weakened by decades of salt-water corrosion\, and its life
  support systems are increasingly fragile. A new Pacific Rim Aquarium will
  continue the longstanding tradition of highlighting Puget Sound marine li
 fe while also showcasing some exciting new species such as Hammerhead shar
 ks and sea turtles that live in the warmer waters of the Sea of Cortez.\n\
 nRenovations and Improvements to the Aging Polar Bear Exhibit\nThe renovat
 ed polar bear exhibit will nearly double in size and meet rising internati
 onal standards\, allowing the Zoo to acquire new polar bears in the future
 . Visitors also can expect more up-close viewing experiences of the bears.
 \n\nRenovation of the Aging Rocky Shores Exhibit\nThe three decades-old Ro
 cky Shores exhibit is showing signs of deterioration\, age and heavy use. 
 Renovations to Rocky Shores – home to walruses\, sea otters\, seals\, an
 d puffins – will improve health and safety features for animals and keep
 ers. Upgrades to animal life-support systems and expanded animal viewing o
 pportunities also will be included in the project.\n\n
