Batik is made either by drawing dots and lines of the resist with a spouted tool called a canting or by printing the resist with a copper st amp called a cap. The applied wax resists dyes and therefore allows the ar tisan to color selectively by soaking the cloth in one color\, removing th e wax with boiling water\, and repeating if multiple colors are desired.\n \nA tradition of making batik is found in various countries\, including In donesia\, Malaysia\, Singapore\, India\, Bangladesh\, Sri Lanka\, Philippi nes and Nigeria\; the batik of Indonesia\, however\, is the best known.\n\ nInstructor Lely Shim is from Jakarta\, Indonesia. She has been in WA sinc e 2005. She is instructor of basic Indonesian Language in LIASA program wi th UPS and JBLM.
