 "My name is Lorraine Toler and I am an artist residing in Tacoma Washingto
 n. I studied oil painting\, acrylic painting and photography in the Fine A
 rts Program at Washington State University.\n\nI have many diverse sources
  of inspiration from the last queen of Korea to a wasting disease of the P
 acific Northwest Sea Star population. My driving force and common thread i
 s finding a subject\, reading and researching the subject and then interpr
 et the story with a narrative of images.\n\nI recently discovered that I a
 lso delight in painting pets. I have always been a pet person\, so it is a
  natural progression. Like many\, I anthropomorphize my pets and they alwa
 ys become part of my family. During the process of painting an animal it i
 s like getting to know a new friend. It is always an honor to paint a much
  loved pet.\n\nMy primary medium is acrylic paint. My style and process is
  influenced by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch and the evocative way he inte
 rpreted themes of life\, death\, and family as well as the contemporary Ca
 lifornia artist Hung Liu and the way she paints Chinese History and her ow
 n personal experiences of oppression in an authoritarian society. I strive
  to create in the way that these artist do. I admire the way that they tel
 l a story through a single piece or a series. I admire art that can make y
