Join us for an outdoor production of a William Shakespeare play.

“Love’s Labour’s Lost,” one of William Shakespeare’s early comedies, comes to Wright Park on Friday, August 5. The free show starts at 7 p.m. and will be staged on north end of the 27-acre park, in a spot south of Division Avenue about midway between South I and South G streets.

The classic story arrives in Tacoma courtesy of Seattle Shakespeare Co.’s Wooden O productions, a traveling troupe that specializes in open-air shows.

In “Love’s Labour’s Lost” the idealistic resolve of four young men gets tested by four young ladies who show up at their doorstep. The King and his friends vow to abstain from women’s company for three years. They plan to devote their time to academics. The Princess of France and her ladies arrive for a visit just as the vows leave the men’s lips. It’s will against want and heart against head in this delightful summer romance.

If you’re planning to go and would like to get close to the action, bring a blanket to sit on the ground. Alternatively, low-rise, collapsible beach chairs work well. If you’d prefer a higher seat, the company recommends sitting in the back of the crowd. Check out the Conservatory table for Shakespeare inspired crafts.
