Creatives

Kayla Schroader

Experience Tacoma Editor;
Writer and photographer

I have loved Tacoma since my first breath out of Tacoma General Hospital some 30 years ago. This city never seems to lack sources of inspiration. I can feel enlightened on the waterfront between the magnitude of Mount Rainier and the branching Puget Sound. I can brainstorm while running across a busy Narrows Bridge. I love the rush of productivity when I work from my favorite coffee shops like Metronome and Anthem. But at the end of the day, it’s the face-to-face interaction that really gets me excited about my work – being greeted by my barista, popping in to say hi to my friends at Indochine or catching up with the team at the M Agency. These are my people and I love being able to give back to that community through my writing.

Lisa Blackmore

My favorite animal is a sea horse because they are so delicate and the dad gives birth. Amazing.
I was a teacher in Thailand for 3 years which enabled me to travel around to places such at China, India and Vietnam.
My most embarrassing moment was when my shirt flipped up during a pep assembly while I was doing backhand springs across the floor.
If there is a room full of people and one baby, I will want to talk with the baby.
I cry when I’m happy, sad, mad, or stressed out. It’s how I work I guess.
